Embracing Authenticity workshop
The High Road of Transformative Teaching
Join Terry Dubroy, adventurer, interdisciplinary educator, and the Founder and Executive Director of Thrive: Enabling Potential, for a transformative 2-day workshop designed to empower educators to cultivate their authentic selves and integrate them into their teaching practice. With over two decades of experience as a certified Ontario College of Teachers educator, Terry speaks powerfully about the importance of challenging comfort zones, embodying love, fostering dynamic classroom communities, and embracing the art of transformative education. Experience 2 days of self-discovery, reflection, and growth as we embark on a journey toward authenticity in education. Together, we'll explore the High Road of transformative teaching and unlock the power of being our true selves in the classroom.
Day 1: Understanding authenticity
Participants will delve into the concept of authenticity in education under Terry's guidance. Drawing from his adventurous life and diverse experiences as a wilderness guide, owner and operator of an outdoor adventure company, and facilitator of S.O.L.E., a specialized interdisciplinary, outdoor, leadership, and environmental studies program for senior high school students, Terry will share profound insights into the transformative power of authenticity in teaching.
Through interactive discussions and self-reflection activities, educators will differentiate between the High Road and the low road of authenticity, exploring the qualities of a thriving mindset in education.
Day 2: Integrating Authenticity Into Teaching
Explore practical strategies for integrating authenticity into teaching practice. Terry's profound connection with nature will serve as a guiding force, inspiring educators to identify their own interests and hobbies that align with teaching.
Through empowering discussions and hands-on activities, participants will learn how to authentically engage with students and reframe negative circumstances as teachable moments. Terry's experience as a facilitator of S.O.L.E. will provide valuable insights into creating dynamic classroom communities where students feel safe to express themselves and explore their passions.
